Our mission

Human exploitation has a long history. Sadly, it is not history itself. While we at faircollective acknowledge that reality, we refuse to accept it. As with many problems, they are best tackled collectively, together. Our mission is at the heart of our name, faircollective.

Our hope for change

A first step in making human exploitation history is by all of us acknowledging its existence. We need to be aware that injustice is happening and where it is happening. There are some wonderful organizations raising awareness about the current realities of modern day slavery. Our resource section has more information where you can learn about the topic. We highly encourage you to take a look at those resources to learn about what human exploitation can look like in our modern world. We also highlight many initiatives that are underway to change the status quo and to demonstrate that there is hope for change.

For example, there are organizations working to help rehabilitate victims of exploitation and human trafficking. Some of these organizations sell fair trade products on faircollective. There are others which support law enforcement in their ongoing work to strengthen the justice system and to enforce existing laws banning forced or exploitative labor. The list goes on. (include link here if someone has a resource they recommend to be reviewed and listed?? – to be part of the faircollective)

Our thoughts on fair labor

Human exploitation comes in various forms. In some instances, it may be right in front of us, or, more often than not, it is hidden. Hidden away in some far away country, part of some supply chain, somewhere. In other words, out of sight, out of mind.

It’s important to recognize that the products we purchase are made by someone. With that reality in mind, consider if that person was you, or a family member, or even your child, would it not be reasonable to want a living wage and safe working conditions for yourself or that family member? Thinking of this, would it not also be reasonable to consider purchasing products from companies who adhere to fair standards, and thereby reward those supply chains which not only care about profit and consumer happiness, but also care about the well-being of their workers, and their happiness.

Our choice

We believe that by choosing to buy fair, we can collectively work toward ending the exploitation of human labor that, if we are honest, has become an accepted evil of consumerism, that perhaps many of us have either not been aware of or, if we are aware, we did not know of fair trade options available when purchasing products.

And this is the mission of faircollective: to make fair.shopping.simple through an online marketplace.

Our products

faircollective was born with people in mind first. Therefore, you will only find products on our platform which adhere to a minimum standard when it comes to how workers are treated. That being said, we love our beautiful nature and the environment. We know that exploitation of labor in the supply chain can be linked to a negative impact on the environment, especially within the fashion industry. Therefore, we offer sustainability information going well beyond the working conditions. You can find some resources about the environmental footprint of our consumption in our resource section.

Our foundation

We believe in the dignity of all persons and in the preservation of our environment and that a collective of people can transform industry practices of labor within global markets.

faircollective is an online marketplace which exists to provide the consumer with a collection of brands that adhere to minimum standards of fair labor practices.
